Clarendon, Zellous Unbeaten; Christmas, Hassell Big Rebounders

In my latest, greatest update of Indiana Fever players on the overseas circuit, I’m not sure where to start. Too many players are off to outstanding starts!

In fact, the four Fever stars who have begun play are currently a combined 19-1. Erlana Larkins has yet to begin play in China.

Unbeaten so far are Layshia Clarendon with USK Prague (Czech Republic) and Shavonte Zellous with Galatasaray (Turkey), whose teams are 8-0 and 6-0, respectively, combining their domestic leagues and EuroLeague. Also unbeaten is Jasmine Hassell with Elitzur Netanya (Isreal) whose club is 2-0 with an early lead in the Israeli League. Hassell’s team owns a narrow advantage over Karima Christmas and Maccabi Ramat Hen (Israel) who have won two straight games following an early defeat.

Clarendon’s career has yet to encounter a loss outside of the United States. Though she is scoreless with a combined 14 minutes in two EuroLeague victories, the rookie averages 5.2 points, 2.5 assists and 16.3 minutes per game through six wins in the Czech domestic league. She recently scored 10 points in a 102-45 domestic win over Slovanka MB on Nov. 9 – all six Czech victories by USK have been by wide margins.

Clarendon and USK Prague scored another big win earlier today (Nov. 13), getting past Spartak Moscow Region (Russia) in a EuroLeague contest that drew attention in Europe by ending Spartak’s 15-game home winning streak.

Zellous, meanwhile, continues scoring at a hot pace in Europe, averaging 11.4 points with 4.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game for Turkish power Galatasaray. Gala is 6-0 and in first place in the Turkish League. Gala won its EuroLeague opener against Spanish power Perfumerias Avenida, behind 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting by Zellous.

Perhaps the biggest statistics by Fever stars are the rebounding numbers posted in Israel by Christmas and Hassell. Karima currently leads the Israeli League with 14.3 boards per game, followed by No. 2 Hassell with 12.0. And who is fourth in rebounding and fifth in scoring? None other than Jessica Breland who completed 30 games with the Fever last summer.

While Elitzur leads the Israeli League at 2-0, Christmas and Ramat Hen are 2-1, tied with Breland’s Bnot Hertzeilya team.

Hassell and Christmas both produced┬ádouble-doubles in their last two games. Hassell registered games of 23 points and 13 rebounds, and 14 points with 11 boards. Karima’s last two games featured 20 points and 15 rebounds, and 11 points with a whopping 21 rebounds.
